Michelle graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. She had an advocacy role within the Latinx community of Iowa. She, along with other students, started a LULAC (League of United Latino American Citizens) chapter in her school. She is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
